2024 General Election

Qualifications: McCormick earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Purdue, a master’s in special education from Ball State, and both an education specialist degree and a doctorate in educational research from Indiana State. Her effectiveness as an educator and leader is evidenced by her rise from the special education classroom to heading the top state office overseeing primary and secondary education, the purpose that absorbs the biggest portion of the state budget.

Public service: McCormick has dedicated her career to public education serving the needs of students, parents and teachers. After leaving the classroom but before assuming the state’s top education job, she served as high school principal and then superintendent of the school system in Yorktown, Delaware County. Her passion for public service for all Hoosiers drives her campaign.

Responsiveness and pragmatism: McCormick has committed to bringing common sense back to the Statehouse. She promises to focus on issues that impact a majority of voters: public education, the economy, and reproductive rights and freedoms.

Commitment to bipartisanship: McCormick started her political career as a Republican and was elected as Indiana’s state superintendent of public instruction. Her bipartisan behavior serving the needs of all students ruffled the feathers of more partisan state-level officials, and the Indiana legislature changed the law to make the position a political appointment instead of an elected office.
